The Tale of Hunter Biden and Donald Trump Jr.
Donald Trump Jr’s long-standing political rivalry with Hunter Biden is baffling to many. Trump Jr. has repeatedly criticized Hunter for profiting off his father’s office. Nearly every day on social media, every interview, he talks about Hunter Biden. He’s obsessed with the man. What is so strange is that Trump Jr. appears to be jealous of Hunter Biden. We all remember when Trump Jr. said “I wish my name were Hunter Biden” because he’d be able to make millions. That puzzled a lot of people. Don is hardly short of money. And to most, Hunter has had an unenviable life. He lost his mother and his sister at a young age. He then lost his brother. So why is Trump Jr. jealous?
But Hunter Biden is everything Trump Jr. wants to be. There are many parallels between their lives. Both men are middle-aged sons of high-profile men. They both attended elite universities. They both have struggled with addiction. Most importantly, they both have a history of acting recklessly and embarrassing their families with their behaviour. These include infidelity, morally questionable business deals and inappropriate public behaviour.
However, there are many major differences too. First of all, Hunter has been a successful businessman. He set up lobbying and consultancy firm called Rosemont Seneca with some friends from college. He has invested in many companies across the world. He appears to have done this with little outside help. And Hunter’s success is what stings Trump Jr. the most. Trump Jr. is meant to be a great businessman. He has tried to establish his own businesses. But none of his ventures have gone well. He tried setting himself up as a skiing instructor after he left college. But that didn’t go well and he ended up working as a barman. Many years later, he set up Titan Atlas, a company selling pre-fab houses. This company went under and his father had to bail him out. Furthermore, Born Trump book reveals Trump Sr. considered Don Jr. to be a much weaker businessman than his other children. Trump Jr. is richer, but Hunter is self-made. Perhaps not all of his wealth comes from legitimate sources. And that’s an issue. Although it’s not as bad as the way the Trump company has acted over the years.
But Trump Jr. can’t stand that. Business- the thing the Trumps pride themselves on- his father’s political opponent is better at. In true Trump fashion, he has spun a way to find a way for Hunter to have cheated. Hunter can’t be a great success in his own right. He must have been helped by his father’s name. There must be some deep corruption that the media won’t report. Which is why Trump Jr. accuses the media of double standards.
He’s wrong for several reasons. First, the claim that the Bidens have a conflict of interest because Hunter was working in Ukraine, a country which Joe was involved with (as vice president, he would have worked with many countries). It would be like saying the Clintons had a conflict of interest because their daughter works in the USA and Bill Clinton was president and Hillary Clinton was a US senator.
More recently, the laptop story has emerged. The emails and texts found on the laptop purport to show that Hunter was making deals and cutting his father in. But the laptop story is suspicious. Which is why the media haven’t covered it more widely. You don’t need to be a journalist to see why it’s suspicious. Here’s some reasons:
- Hunter is supposed to have abandoned a laptop full of incriminating information at a computer shop. This in itself is hard to believe. Why would he not have collected it? The laptop must have been important enough to him to want it repaired. He has enough money to purchase a new one and not bother having it repaired.
- The PDF's metadata shows they were created several months after the laptop was left at the repair shop. This was during the same period that Rudy Guilliani’s henchmen were trying to dig up information on the Bidens.
- The Email address is odd. Pozharskyi’s email is v.Pozharskyi.Ukraine@Gmail.com. Why is he sending emails from a Gmail account? Does he not have a work email that he would be sending from? Also, why is the word “Ukraine” in the email? Most people don’t include the country they’re from in their email address.
- The second email’s header is odd. The grey circle on the left has a much poorer resolution than the rest of the header. The comma next to Devon Archer’s address is too close to his name as well. It looks fake.
- The writing style is strange. As some points, it is clear and formal. But they use many strange spelling mistakes such as gaz (presumable meant to be gas) and regrad (regard). Is the person who wrote it trying to imagine what a person who speaks English as a second language would write like?
- Why did it have a Beau Biden foundation sticker on it? It’s possible that the laptop had been owned by the foundation at some point. But why did it have Hunter’s personal content on it? Also, wouldn’t the Beau Biden foundation be responsible for repairing it if it were their laptop? They must have their own IT contract. The shop is near the Beau Biden foundation’s offices. That John Paul Mac Isaac, the shop owner, noticed the sticker, suggests that the shop doesn’t routinely work on the foundation’s computers.
- The laptop was dropped off in Delaware, where Joe Biden lives. But Hunter lives in California. California is over 3000 miles away. Why would he drop the laptop off in Delaware and not near his home town?
Interestingly, Mac Isaac who collected the laptop, is visually impaired. Because of this, he couldn’t verify the identity of the person who dropped off the laptop. There can’t be many visually impaired computer repairers. (Mac Isaac uses a monocle and holds the computers close so he can see them). Mac Isaac reports that the man who handed in the laptop gave his name as Hunter Biden. Mac Isaac is also a huge supporter of Trump. If someone were wanting to frame Hunter Biden, they couldn’t have picked a more perfect shop to leave the laptop at. His story has been very inconsistent. In an interview in the Daily Beast, he has said that the FBI asked him for the laptop, and then he said he contacted the FBI. He also implied in an interview that he’d been in touch with Rudy Giuliani (when pressed on this, he replied “ah, shit” and refused to give further details).
It sounds very much as if whoever owned the laptop was trying to make it as clear as possible that it belonged to Hunter Biden. And whoever wrote the emails wanted to make it clear that they were from Ukraine. This all suggests the laptop has never belonged to Hunter Biden and it has been created to make the Bidens look bad. Some of the material might be genuine. For instance, the family photos appear genuine. The texts might be too. That’s not to say Hunter put them on the computer. The Biden family’s phones or computers might have been hacked. In the case of the pictures, they could have come from close Biden associates. So the media have good reason not to report this story. It’s too suspicious.
There’s other things that Trump Jr. is envious of too. Hunter was in the navy. He had a waiver so he could join in his 40s. On the other hand, according to Mary Trump’s book, Trump Jr. wanted to join the army, but his family threatened to disinherit him if he did. We all know about Don Jr’s fondness for guns and the outdoors. He reportedly has many friends who served in the army. Having a military career aligns much more closely with his interests than working for the Trump company. But his family forced him to work for them.
Hunter Biden has more freedom than Don Jr. Trump Jr. gave the interview with the infamous line “When you’re the father, and you’re son’s entire career is dependent on that, they own you”. Indeed, Trump Sr. has kept his children on a tight leash for all their lives. Don Jr. is stuck working for his father, in Trump Tower, doing a job he hates. The family life is tangled up with his work life. He grew up in Trump Tower. His father still lives there. He can’t go off and move to a different state or work for another company. His father wouldn’t allow it (and he wouldn’t be able to get another job with comparable pay and benefits- all he’s done in his life is be Trump’s son). His father really does own him.
As well, unlike Donald Trump, Joe Biden supports Hunter no matter what. Hunter has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. The leaked texts (assuming they are real) show Joe telling Hunter that he loves him and to concentrate on his recovery. And in the first debate, Joe described himself as “proud” of Hunter for overcoming his addiction. Can you imagine Donald Trump sending his son supportive texts in rehab? Trump’s favourite ways of describing his son include: a loser, not the sharpest tool and stupid. Can you imagine him describing himself as “proud” of his son for overcoming addiction? In his book, Great Again, Trump also denied that any of his children had any issues with drugs or alcohol. We know that’s not true. In his book, Trump Jr. states that quit drinking because he “couldn’t drink in moderation”. Based on the stories of him at college, this is somewhat of an understatement. He was regularly seen unconscious and covered in various bodily fluids. His nickname was “diaper Don”, because of his propensity to wet the bed while drunk. His drinking was out of control. But both Trump Jr. and Sr. are ashamed and pretend there was no issue. Trump Jr. has never described himself publicly as an alcoholic. The closest thing he came to describing himself as an addict was in his book Triggered, where he said “Now look, I quit drinking for a reason. I understand that some people have problems with addiction”. He then goes on to disparage Hunter. Trump is ashamed of his son. He won’t admit his son is an addict. He is not a loving father. All his children are to him are heirs to the business. Most parents aim to have kids who can stand up on their own. Who don’t rely on their parents. That’s what Joe Biden has done with Hunter, But not the Trumps.
The other thing Trump Jr is envious of is the privacy afforded to Hunter. Hunter is rarely on television or in the news. While Biden is an unusual surname, it probably doesn’t attract the same attention as Donald Trump Jr. For many years, Biden was a senator. Unless you’re a real political anorak, most people wouldn’t have known him prior to him becoming vice president. On the other hand, Donald Trump is famous around the world. He has companies everywhere. And The Apprentice was broadcast internationally. Trump Jr. couldn’t get away from the Trump name, much to his annoyance. For instance, in an interview in New York Magazine from when he was younger, he describes his disdain for people realizing who he was. He isn’t very resilient either. In Ivana Trump’s book, she describes how hard Don Jr. takes criticism from the media. So he’s bitter about how Hunter doesn’t face the same level of media intrusion.
Also, Don Jr. forgets that he has put himself in the spotlight. He was famous before his father became president. He was an advisor in the later seasons of The Apprentice. He has written two books. He has multiple high-profile social media accounts. He frequently does television and radio interviews. Hunter hasn’t courted media attention. He is out on the campaign trail too. Furthermore, Don’s future political ambitions put him under extra scrutiny. We don’t hear as much about Hunter in the media. But then again, we don’t see any “Hunter Biden 2024” posters or messages encouraging Hunter Biden to run for president on social media either.
Trump Jr.’s animosity toward Hunter Biden is because Hunter is everything Don Jr. wants to be. Successful, independent and with a loving father who doesn’t consider his son to be his property. A man who grew up without the constant gaze of the press. As for the smears? The Trumps can’t be dignified. They want to drag the Bidens down with them. Neither Joe nor Hunter Biden are perfect. Just like every other human being on the planet. But make no mistakes, the Bidens are nowhere near as bad as the Trumps. Hunter Biden has his flaws. But Don Jr. is operates on a whole other level of deviousness. Don’t let the Trump’s smears influence you.
